Abstract

The rising prevalence of mental health issues among university students in their developmental transition phase highlights the need for adaptive individual counseling. This study aims to describe the application of four counseling techniques: Grief Counseling, Person-Centered Therapy (PCT), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), and Solution-Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT) in individual counseling services for university students. College students are in a developmental transition period, which may make them vulnerable to a variety of psychological problems such as grief, identity crises, cognitive distortions, and trouble establishing life goals. The research method used is a literature review with a descriptive analytical approach to relevant primary and secondary sources The results indicate that: (1) Grief counseling is effective in helping students cope with loss and develop resilience; (2) PCT facilitates personal development through an empathetic and non-directive therapeutic relationship; (3) CBT is successful in identifying and changing negative thought patterns that affect academic and social functioning; and (4) SFBT motivates students to find strength-based solutions within a short period of time. The combination of these four approaches, customized to the specific demands and context of the student problems, has been shown to improve the efficiency of individual counseling in higher education.
