Manajemen Strategi Kepala Sekolah dalam Meningkatkan Prestasi Akademik Siswa di SMA Negeri 1 Palangka Raya

This study was conducted based on the importance of the principal’s role in improving students’ academic achievement through effective strategic management. SMA Negeri 1 Palangka Raya is one of the leading senior high schools in Central Kalimantan that has achieved various academic accomplishments at the city, provincial, national, and international levels. Therefore, this study aimed to describe the principal’s strategic management in improving students’ academic achievement at SMA Negeri 1 Palangka Raya, including strategic planning, strategy implementation, strategy evaluation, as well as supporting and inhibiting factors. This study used a qualitative approach with a descriptive research design. Data were collected through interviews, observations, and documentation involving the principal, vice principals, teachers, and other parties related to the implementation of academic programs at the school. The data were analyzed through data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing. The results showed that the principal implemented strategic management by planning programs focused on improving students’ academic achievement, carrying out various academic development programs, improving teachers’ competencies, providing adequate facilities and infrastructure, and conducting regular evaluations of the programs. The implementation of these strategies was supported by teacher competence, student motivation, parental support, a positive school culture, and adequate school facilities. However, several challenges were found, including differences in students’ academic abilities and learning motivation. The implementation of strategic management contributed to the development of a strong academic culture and supported the improvement of students’ academic achievement at SMA Negeri 1 Palangka Raya, as shown by students’ achievements at the city, provincial, national, and international levels.
